ARCHIVE VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS

INTRODUCTION

Images from volcanic eruptions made by earth observations satellites are available on this page. The archive starts on 2008. There are only images form eruptions available for the hemisphere visible from Meteosat at 0°N/0°E. Not only Meteosat images are listed in this overview, but also from other satellites as: NOAA, Metop, Modis, Earth Observatory and Aura.

Satellites are a good help for monitoring of volcanoes. There is not always a geological observation post to spot the activity of a volcano. But is important to monitor remote volcanoes. Any eruption can produce volcanic ash and this could be dangerous for airliners. Ash can destroy airplane engines.
